At this point in life, I believe that the term Vibration and implementation of it therein, is fundamental to art. Vibration is foundational to a work of art, be it a picture, a story, or a painting. The presence of vibration in a work of art is directly proportionate to the intended artistic communication. The difference between an original work of art and a copy of it is that it reveals a deficiency in vibration in the latter. The less the vibration in a work of art therefore, the less the artistic communication and relationship between the artist and the audience.
A work of art needs the audience to be moved, to feel, and this can be achieved only if vibrates enoughto be able to truly communicate what it needs to the audience. A work of dance cannot therefore accomplish what it would like to if it lacks vibration I ask myself; How do I get the required vibration in a body/dancer’s body? I have realized in time that the relationship of vibration to a work of dance is analogical to that of force (in a dancer’s body ) through support. The ease/force in floor work for example, in contemporary piece of art is support the dancers receive from the floor. Vibration is therefore achieved in the space a dancer works, plays and improvises in. It is achieved when the relationship of a dancer with the music no longer remains disconnected but becomes one entity. The dancer becomes the music. The development of this single unit rests of sustenance. A musical note requires the sustenance of an instrument. A living body needs sustenance of a breath of air. A dancer needs the sustenance of an impulse. If the sustenance of any of these drop, they no longer exist. The musical note, the living body and the dance, die. Vibration therefore rests in the sustenance of an impulse within the single entity (mentioned before). It is important to realize that the dancer does not dance for her/himself. They dance for the audience. In or to arrive at a point wherein a dancer can communicate to the audience, it is important that s/he is adequately able to utilize vibration to eliminate the vacuum that exists between her/him and the latter. While understanding this exercise, it is important to note that vibration should not be confused with sustained effort. Obvious effort in a piece of work is difficult to watch and appreciate. Vibration entails the effortless intention and subtlety in movement of a dancer to eliminate the vacuum that exists between the performer and the audience.
